So you have played around Elden Ring for a few hours, have upgraded your weapon, found a good piece of armor that has helped you survive early game areas. Now, you have entered a new area, and found that enemies hit harder – and are looking for ways to increase your defence. The first thing that comes to your mind is – if you can upgrade your cool piece of armor. We have the answer for you and all other details to help you out below!
Can You Upgrade Armor In Elden Ring
The answer is – unfortunately no! The only way to have your armor give you better protection is to switch over to another piece of armor. You can also look for what specific type of damage do you want extra protection from. Some armor pieces, even though they may have a lesser overall defence stat by a couple of points, they may be offering significantly higher damage resistance in one damage type – lets say magic. In such a case, you would actually be better off with that armor in an area like Raya Lucaria Academy, but may need to switch to something else in Redmane Castle
Armor in Elden Ring also provides the important (and some would say most important) part of fashion-souls – Not only are you supposed to defeat bosses in Elden Ring, but you are supposed to do it in style! So if you have a Uchigatana equipped, then you need to have the Ronin set equipped to fully complete the role-playing part of the experience – similarly, if you are wielding a greatsword, the Blaidd’s Armor set gives the perfect look for your character. There are full lists to which armor looks cool in Elden Ring like the one here.
The one important point over here is that Shields can be upgraded in Elden Ring. So if you are playing the classical sword and shield character ( or any character for that matter with a shield equipped), you can use your smithing stones to upgrade the shield, and it will provide increased defence and resistances.
So there you have it. Use the shield for defence, use the armor for some good fashion-souls!
