Frostpunk 2, the sequel to 11 bit studio’s 2018 gritty post-apocalyptic survival management, has just got its first gameplay trailer.
From the looks of it, the sequel builds upon the predecessor’s focus on the emotional turmoil and the material needs of the people in the frigid environment. The Frostpunk 2 gameplay trailer gives a glimpse of a new mechanic – the Council.
As the city’s steward, players will be able to propose a law and let the city’s council vote on it. I assume, the voting system will take into account the player’s relationship with the different factions of the city. The trailer, in fact, shows the proposed law to be turned down in the vote, keeping in line with the gritty nature of the Frostpunk universe.
Timeline-wise, Frostpunk 2 takes place 30 years after its predecessor. The reactor is still the beating heart of mankind’s last bastion and keeps your settlement alive three decades after the Great Storm. While the gameplay trailer clearly shows that players will have a much larger space to build on, Frostpunk 2 is still less about the city and more about its society.
Jakub Stokalski, game Co-Director and Design Director at 11 bit studios, sums it up best:
“But inner turmoils, sparked by rising social differences, mean that players will be facing new kinds of threats. We use a post-apocalyptic setup to tell a meaningful story about human ambition. Because ultimately, what can end us is not nature itself – it’s human nature.”
Frostpunk 2 is slated for release in the first half of 2024 on PC. It’s also slated for Xbox Series X|S and PS5 release down the line.
