Baldur’s Gate 3 devs are working on bringing official mod support that works across all platforms, according to Larian Studios’ director of publishing Michael Douse. He revealed this in a tweet corresponding to the rollout of BG3’s Hotfix #19.
Since its release in August last year, Baldur’s Gate 3 has attracted a robust modding community around the successful RPG. However, mods breaking with every update the game receives remains a pain point for many players. It usually results in temporarily uninstalling the said broken mod and waiting for it to be updated.
In a follow-up tweet, Douse adds, “We have a system but it needs to be tested and still requires work.” The next part is collaborating with the mod authors to ensure smooth functionality even across updates. “Our community teams will start talking with and looping in modding community.”
PC games have a rich history of modding and some games like Skyrim and Minecraft have stayed relevant for more than a decade due to their robust modding communities. Now, official mod support, especially one that works across all platforms (PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 in BG3’s case), is surely going to be a godsend for the longevity of Baldur’s Gate 3.
