If you have been playing Lies Of P and are in early game, you would have come across instances, either on the main story or on an errand (for an old lady by the window, perhaps?) and given two options : to lie or tell the truth. The RPG fan and veteran in you would have immediately sensed that giving an option to choose most likely (or hopefully) will have consequences. The next question is, how much of a consequence. Would it just be like a role-playing option, or will the impact be to get locked out of quests, or branch off into a different ending?
Here is the short, spoiler-free answer to should you lie in Lies Of P :
You can choose to do either – tell a lie or the truth, just that you should stick to one thing consistently throughout the game. So either keep lying every time you are presented a choice, or tell the truth every time. That is the spoiler-free answer.
Now for the spoiler-filled answer to whether you should lie in Lies Of P :
Lying in Lies Of P is looked upon as a human trait. Puppets cannot lie, that is how they have been created. You, are however, a special puppet since you have the ability to lie – the more you lie, the more human you become. So as you keep lying through the game, each time you lie, you will keep getting messages on screen like “Your springs are reacting” , “You feel warmth” – indicating you are becoming more and more human-like. Listening to records on the gramophone at Hotel Krat will also get you more ‘Humanity Points’.
The game has three different endings, and while one ending has nothing to do with this system, the other two have. So, if you lie and don’t give the heart to Geppetto, you get the ‘Rise Of P’ ending. If you tell the truth and don’t give the heart to Geppetto, you get the ‘Free From Puppet String’ ending. There are other series of steps as well that you need to follow ( it can’t possibly be a souls-like if that was not the case!) to be able to achieve the above endings, so keep that in mind. Like all souls-likes, this game is designed to encourage multiple walkthroughs either in NG or NG+ to be able to achieve all endings and unlock all achievements.
Lies Of P will be getting a DLC and a sequel as this game was clearly a success – with a ‘generally favorable’ rating status on Metacritic, and clocking 1 million sales within a month of launch. The game was released on Sep 19, 2023 for PC, PS4,PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X
