Gameplay

Ubisoft has been building up to a return to roots for the franchise, with an increased focus on stealth, parkour, assassinations; rather than weapons, skill trees and combat – think more Assassin’s Creed 1-3 rather than the Origins / Odyssey / Valhalla trilogy.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage Gameplay

World-building

Even though games in the Assassin’s Creed universe have had their ups and downs in terms of how they have been received by the gaming community; the exceptionally high class world-building has been a constant across all their games, and Mirage promises to be no different. Originally set to be a DLC to Valhalla building upon the character of Basim Ibn Ishaq, the story apparently evolved into a game big enough to be launched as a stand alone adventure

City of Baghdad

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set in 870-860 CE Baghdad, and players will get to explore the nooks and crannies of what is a much more limited scope (in terms of region and map size – previous games covered the entirety of a country while Valhalla even had expeditions into the other-worldly realms of Asgard) – the city of Baghdad; but promising a more intense, compact and organic experience for gamers. It is divided into 4 areas:

  1. The Abbasiyah district which has been described as the city’s cultural hub;
  2. Karkh – the market district;
  3. Harbiyah – the industrial district;
  4. the Round City – the seat of power in the region, a lush and beautiful district surrounded by walls

Basim

Players will step into the shoes of Basim Ibn Ishaq, the cryptic character that got introduced in Valhalla, and is expected to play a key role in the overall Assassin’s Creed lore. The game will trace his journey from being an ordinary thief into the character that we first met. The story, it has also been hinted, will cover how he joined the Hidden Ones. You can check out this link to delve into Basim’s backstory with even greater detail.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage: How Long To Beat

The game is expected to be 15 – 20 hours long; which is in-line with the promised changes in gameplay, world building and narrative. This looks to be clearly in response to the charge put against the previous 3 open world entries where too much focus on repetitive gameplay and collectibles led to a bloated 60-70 hours+ experience.

With a packed October calendar, will be interesting to see how this game performs. Are you looking forward to buying this game on release? Do let us know in the comments below!
