Cities Skylines 2 has managed to sell more than one million copies thus far, shared publisher Paradox Interactive in their year-end report.
The city builder sequel launched on October 22 last year to a lukewarm reception which can be very much attributed to the game’s poor optimization. Paradox CEO Fredrik Wester and CFO Alexander Bricca acknowledged the sentiment during the livestream of the report. They shared their disappointment in not meeting “player expectations on performance, platform releases, and functionalities” at launch.
Notably, Cities Skylines 2 was supposed to come out on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S simultaneously. However, the console release was canceled at the last moment and it has been postponed to Q2 2024, according to Colossal Order CEO’s blogpost in November last year. However, as shared in Paradox’s year-end report, the publisher is happy about the game’s sales numbers, and they are committed to improving the game.
Cities Skylines 2 recently had its 1.0.19 patch which fixed a plethora of gameplay bugs and performance issues. Right now, the game is sitting at a ‘Mixed’ rating on Steam with 59% positive reviews. However, I’m hopeful about the game turning it around in the long term with continued support from Colossal Order and Paradox Interactive.
