The Whodunit mission of Honkai Star Rail falls under the game’s ‘The Sound and the Fury’ questline. This Trailblaze mission takes place in Dreamscape, where you investigate a murder scene. It can be unlocked after the completion of ‘Should One Awaken at Midnight‘. Another prerequisite for playing Whodunit is reaching level 34.

Honkai Star Rail Whodunit Mission Walkthrough

The Whodunit mission begins by arriving at Penacony. Upon following Black Swan, you come across the sight of the supposed mass murder of monsters. Black Swan will guide you to flee the area. After facing all the challenges, you will meet Aventurine in the end and will have to make a choice.

1. Destroy the Chandelier

  • After investigating the Murder scene, Black Swan will sense the next target location of the culprit.
  • Follow Black Swan’s instructions and activate the Space Anchor.
  • As you follow the waypoints, you will enter a door where a huge room awaits you.
  • Since you can’t phase through physical entities like Black Swan, you will need to destroy the massive chandelier and create a hole in the floor to reach your next location.
  • Start by retrieving Bubble Charges, follow the waypoints and you will reach the chandelier.
  • As you reach the chandelier, you need to slash down the chain and make it fall on the ground.
  • After Black Swan spawns you to the other side of the hole, you will need to battle Dreamjolt Troupe’s Sweet Gorilla.

Quick Tip: Use Physical characters to have a statistical upper hand against Dreamjolt Troupe’s Sweet Gorilla and the Bubble Hounds.

2. Investigate Firefly’s Distorted Memories and Fight Sam

  • As you reach the other end, you will come across multiple fragmented memories of Firefly. You will discover the thoughts she had as she struggled to escape the attacker. Whether she survived or not is still unclear at this point.
  • When you have gone through all the memories and reached the end of the waypoints you have been following, you will have to face the wrath of Stellaron Hunter: Sam. This will be a tough battle as Sam will start off with Weakness Protected which makes his Toughness resistant to your attacks.
  • Sam will lose Weakness Protected on entering Secondary Combustion, this is your chance to use Skill and Ultimate abilities.
  • After the fight is over, you will meet Aventurine. He will invite you to join him in the expedition ahead. Since this is a big choice to make, you will be given two options– to walk away from the offer or continue ahead with Aventurine.

Quick Tip: Consider using characters with Quantum, Imaginary, or Lightning elements while fighting Sam.

Alternative Choice: Not Helping Aventurine

(Image via HoYoverse)
  • If you want to make a dramatic choice and walk out of the offer Aventurine has made, all you need to do is walk out of the door behind Black Swan.
  • Black Swan will try to convince you not to derail from the truth. Pick the option “I’ve decided I’m leaving this place.” if you wish to reveal the alternative ending.
  • Do not worry about losing progress. This is just a fun little alternative route. Eventually, you will be able to continue back to the mission where you left off.

Choice for Mission Progression: Helping Aventurine

  • To continue the mission progress, interact with Aventurine who is standing in the hallway. He will lead you to a door while mentioning an old memory.
  • Enter the door with Aventurine and an important cutscene awaits you (Not going to spoil it for you).
  • Once the cutscene is over, the Whodunit mission will be over and you will receive your rewards.
